How to unlock combat abilities

Defeat a Resonant to earn its combat ability. When a Resonant offers more than one, you choose a single reward — the others can be recovered later with a Reset Item or a Resonant Token.

Ability synergies and status effects

Abilities that combine with each other, not just a list of related powers.

  • InfectedBurn

    Infected + Burn

    Mold abilities apply Infected. Hitting an Infected enemy with Burn triggers an extra burst of damage.

  • AstralizedBurnInfected

    Astralized openings

    Astral abilities leave enemies Astralized, and Lifted targets stay exposed while they are airborne.

  • Falter

    Falter windows

    Shield Bash, Push and Ground Slam build Falter, opening a burst window on a staggered enemy.

Can you change an ability choice?

A choice group is not a permanent lock.

Yes. A Reset Item lets you re-pick a combat ability, and a later Resonant Token can add an ability you skipped.

  • Reset Item

    A Reset Item re-opens a combat choice you already made, letting you pick a different ability from the same Resonant.

  • Resonant Token

    Later in the story, Pope's Research can trade a Resonant Token for an extra combat ability from a group you already chose.
