Untapped Novelty Magnet → The Gap / Forgemaster
The game ships no confirmed render of this Artifact yet, so the page uses an Exploration glyph instead of a stand-in icon.
Novelty Magnet Overview
Novelty Magnet is a passive Exploration Artifact. While it is equipped, nearby small Resource Crates are marked on the Radar, which makes them easier to spot as you move through an area. It is the opposite of a combat Artifact: it does not raise damage, survivability or Build Power. Its job is to reduce the manual searching that resource gathering normally needs.
The published effect is a detection convenience, not a drop-rate or reward change. The crates the Artifact surfaces are the same crates you would otherwise have to look for.
What Does Novelty Magnet Do?
One passive detection effect, always on while equipped.
The Artifact's player-facing description says it marks nearby small Resource Crates on the Radar. That is the whole verified effect: a Radar marker for one specific type of crate. The page does not publish a radius, a scan interval or a crate count, because the game data does not expose them.
- 1 · Marks crates
Small Resource Crates near Dylan appear as Radar markers.
- 2 · Small crates only
The description names small Resource Crates specifically, not every container.
- 3 · On the Radar
The marker is a Radar display; Remedy's 1.4.0 notes call the affected dungeon display the map.
- 4 · Always on while equipped
There is no trigger and no cooldown; it works the entire time the Artifact is equipped.
No detection radius, update frequency or line-of-sight behaviour is confirmed by the game data, so none is claimed here.
Is Novelty Magnet Good?
Strong for exploration and cleanup, not a combat Artifact.
Novelty Magnet is worth a slot when finding resources is the task. It is the wrong pick when the task is a fight, because its verified effect contributes nothing to damage, survival or Power.
Good fit when
You are clearing resources
When you are sweeping an area for materials, the Radar markers cut down manual searching.
You are exploring unfamiliar interiors
In dense or dim interiors, small crates are easy to miss; the marker surfaces them.
You are looting a dungeon
Since 1.4.0 the crate markers also work on dungeon maps, so a resource run inside them is less blind.
You want map completion
For a full clear of a zone's resources, the passive detection saves repeated back-and-forth.
Lower value when
The task is a boss or a fight
The Artifact adds no combat effect, so a combat Artifact usually contributes more in a fight.
You are building damage or Falter
It is not a damage, Falter or ability Artifact and does not belong in those rankings.
Your three slots are already committed
Equipping it costs an Artifact slot. That opportunity cost is the Artifact's real trade-off.
There is nothing left to find
If an area's small crates are already collected, the Radar markers have nothing to add.
Where It Fits
Its value follows the activity, not a fixed tier.
Novelty Magnet is judged by activity fit: how useful a resource-detection effect is for what you are doing right now. In a fight it is close to dead weight; on a resource run it is one of the most useful slots you can bring.
- Boss fight
Low. Replace it with a combat Artifact.
- Questing
Situational. Keep it only if the route is resource-heavy.
- Exploration
High. Crate markers help you read a new area.
- Resource cleanup
High. This is the Artifact's core scenario.
Activity fit is a recommendation input, not a damage number. It says when the effect is relevant, not how strong it is.
How to Get Novelty Magnet
A confirmed Blueprint system plus a reported source route.
Acquisition has two separate layers. The system is confirmed: you obtain the Untapped Novelty Magnet, then unlock the Artifact at the Forgemaster in The Gap. The specific place the Untapped Artifact comes from is not yet bound to a production source relation.
- 1 · Obtain the Untapped Novelty Magnet
The Untapped Artifact is the input to the crafting step.
- 2 · Unlock it at the Forgemaster
Crafting happens at the Forgemaster in The Gap, the Artifact crafting station.
- 3 · Equip the Artifact
Once unlocked, equip Novelty Magnet in a Loadout Artifact slot.
Production-confirmed
Untapped Novelty Magnet → Forgemaster in The Gap → Novelty Magnet. This chain is confirmed by the game's Artifact data.
Reported Untapped source
Current public guides consistently report the Untapped Novelty Magnet as the reward for a high score in the SHÜM III arcade challenge in Dylan's Apartment, after the main story. The game's Artifact data does not bind this source yet, so it is shown as a reported route rather than a confirmed one.
Because the source is not production-bound, this page does not show a world coordinate, a score threshold or a drop chance. Those stay gated until the reward source is verified.
Untapped Novelty Magnet
The Blueprint that unlocks the Artifact.
The Untapped Novelty Magnet is the Blueprint for this Artifact. Its own description says it unlocks a new Artifact in the Gap, which is the standard Artifact crafting route rather than a special unlock.

Patch 1.4.0 Fix
The dungeon-map detection bug is fixed.
Novelty Magnet previously had an issue where small Resource Crates did not appear on dungeon maps. Remedy fixed this in Update 1.4.0, so on the current build the markers work in dungeons too.
Small Resource Crates are shown by the Magnet Artifact, including on dungeon maps.
Small Resource Crates did not appear on dungeon maps, so the Artifact looked broken inside them.
If you are on an older build and small Resource Crates are missing in dungeon maps, update the game. Remedy addressed this in Update 1.4.0.
What Novelty Magnet Does Not Detect
Small Resource Crates are not every container or collectible.
The verified wording is narrow, and it is worth keeping it narrow. Novelty Magnet is a resource-cleanup Artifact, not a universal detector.
- Large Resource Crates
The description says small Resource Crates. Detection of large Resource Crates is not claimed.
- Every chest
It does not mark every container or chest in an area, only the small Resource Crates it names.
- Collectibles
It is not a collectible detector; it does not point at Sketchbooks, cameras, world feats or hidden rooms.
- Crates through walls
Line-of-sight or through-wall behaviour is not confirmed, so the page does not claim it.
- A known radius
The game data exposes no radius. The verified wording is only nearby.
Each row is a claim the page deliberately does not make. Keeping the scope narrow is what makes the effect trustworthy.
Novelty Magnet Isn't Showing Crates
A short checklist before assuming the Artifact is broken.
The most common cause is already fixed: the dungeon-map bug was addressed in Update 1.4.0. If crates are still missing, work through the checks below.
- 1Confirm the game is updated past 1.4.0. The dungeon-map detection issue was fixed there.
- 2Confirm Novelty Magnet is actually equipped in an Artifact slot.
- 3Confirm you are looking for small Resource Crates, not all containers.
- 4Do not expect it to mark large crates, chests or collectibles; the verified effect does not cover them.
- 5If it still fails on the current version, report it through Help.
There is no separate troubleshooting URL. The fix history and the checks live on this page.
