1996 Commemorative Coin

The 1996 Commemorative Coin is a survival Artifact that makes Health Elements restore more Health. It does not raise every source of healing: its effect is tied to Health Element recovery, the pickups that restore Health during a run.

The Coin sits between a Health Element and the Health it restores. It modifies that one recovery source; it does not add a new heal and it does not change other recovery.

1996 Commemorative Coin Overview

The 1996 Commemorative Coin is a passive survival Artifact. While it is equipped, every Health Element you collect restores more Health than it normally would. It is a recovery-source modifier, not a flat healing bonus and not a maximum-Health upgrade.

Source matters here: the Coin improves Health Element recovery specifically. Other ways of getting Health back are modeled separately and are not assumed to be affected.

What Does the 1996 Commemorative Coin Do?

It makes one recovery source worth more, without changing anything else.

The effect is a short chain: a Health Element is collected, the Coin modifies the recovery that pickups produce, and Health comes back higher than it would without the Artifact. Nothing is spent and there is no cooldown.

  1. 1 · Health Element collected

You pick up a Health Element during normal play, from a kill, a Talent or another generator.

  2. 2 · Recovery amount modified

The Coin changes how much Health that pickup restores before the recovery resolves.

  3. 3 · More Health restored

The same Health Element now returns a larger amount of Health.

  4. 4 · Passive, no cost

The Coin does not break, is not consumed and has no cooldown. It only needs to be equipped.

The exact size of the increase is not published until it is confirmed against the game. The mechanic is the point: the Coin amplifies Health Element recovery.

What Counts as a Health Element?

Health Element recovery is one source among several, not the whole healing system.

Health comes back in different ways, and the Coin only reaches one of them. To use it well, separate Health Element recovery from direct heals, regeneration and event-based recovery, because the Coin treats them differently.

  • Health Element

A pickup that restores Health when collected. This is the source the Coin modifies.

  • Direct heal

A flat or percentage heal applied without a pickup. Not confirmed to be affected.

  • Regeneration

Health that refills over time. A separate system from Health Element recovery.

  • Event heal

Recovery triggered by a dodge, an ability or a conditional event rather than a pickup.

  • Lethal recovery

Emergency recovery after a lethal event, such as Heart Monitor's set restore.

  • Health floor

Protection that limits Health spending. It is resource protection, not recovery.

This is why the Coin is not a catch-all healing Artifact. Treating every recovery source as a Health Element would overstate the effect and mislead build choices.

What the 1996 Commemorative Coin Does Not Affect

It improves Health Element recovery, not the whole survival toolkit.

Most confusion around this Artifact comes from reading it as a global healing boost. The description points at Health Elements specifically, so the boundaries below are part of the effect, not fine print.

  • Every source of healing

Not confirmed. The Coin is described around Health Elements, not around healing as a whole.

  • Maximum Health

No. It changes how much a Health Element restores, not the size of Dylan's Health pool.

  • Heart Monitor's lethal recovery

No assumed interaction. Heart Monitor uses its own set-to-percentage restore, which is not a Health Element.

  • Direct or regeneration healing

Not assumed affected. Only Health Element recovery is confirmed.

  • Wallet's Health cost

No. The Coin does not reduce Health spent as a resource; it improves Health gained from pickups.

Where an interaction is not confirmed, this page says so instead of implying a synergy. Unverified interactions are left out of build advice.

1996 Commemorative Coin vs Wallet and Heart Monitor

Three sustain Artifacts that solve three different survival problems.

Wallet converts Health into a resource, Heart Monitor prevents one death, and the Coin makes Health Element recovery stronger. They can sit in the same loadout, but they never do the same job.

None of these replaces another. Which one earns a slot depends on whether your build's biggest risk is resource pressure, a lethal hit or a thin recovery loop.

How to Get the 1996 Commemorative Coin

A late-game Resonant reward, then an Artifact Formation craft.

You do not find a finished Coin in the world. It is a reward from The Unknown Resonant route: defeat The Co-Director, receive the Untapped Artifact, then form it at the Artifact Formation.

  1. 1 · Progress The Unknown Resonant

Reach the late-game Resonant route that leads to The Co-Director.

  2. 2 · Defeat The Co-Director

Complete the encounter; the Untapped Artifact is part of the reward.

  3. 3 · Claim the Untapped Artifact

The route awards the Untapped 1996 Commemorative Coin among its rewards.

  4. 4 · Form it

Craft the Untapped Artifact at the Artifact Formation, then equip it.

The Unknown Resonant Reward

The 1996 Commemorative Coin comes from The Unknown Resonant, the late-game route that ends with the fight against The Co-Director. The same completion also awards other rewards, including Command.

How to Form the 1996 Commemorative Coin

An Untapped Artifact becomes usable at the Artifact Formation.

Like other Artifacts, the Coin starts as an Untapped Artifact and has to be formed before it can be equipped. That happens at the Artifact Formation craft station.

Recipe not yet verified

The exact materials and Source cost are withheld here until they are confirmed against the game. Formation requires the Untapped 1996 Commemorative Coin plus the station's materials.

Recipe numbers are the part most likely to change between versions, so they are kept out of the page rather than published as reported values.

Build Synergies

The Coin scales with how many Health Elements a build produces.

The Coin is a sustain multiplier, so its value depends on how often your setup creates or collects Health Elements. A build that generates none gains almost nothing; a build that generates many turns each one into more Health.

  • Health Element economy

Pair it with Talents and abilities that create more Health Elements: generate more pickups, then heal more from each.

  • Health-spending builds

Builds that put pressure on the Health pool, such as Wallet-style resource spending, make every Health Element pickup more valuable.

  • Aggressive sustain

Kill- and pickup-driven builds that keep moving benefit most from a stronger, self-sustaining recovery loop.

  • Recovery-source scaling

Investing in Health Element generation and recovery scales the Coin, instead of adding another unrelated heal.

  • When it is weaker

If your survival comes from regeneration, direct heals or a set restore rather than pickups, the Coin has little to scale.

1996 Commemorative Coin FAQ

What does the 1996 Commemorative Coin do?

It makes Health Elements restore more Health while it is equipped. It is a passive modifier to that one recovery source, with no cost or cooldown.

How do you get the 1996 Commemorative Coin?

It is a reward from The Unknown Resonant: defeat The Co-Director, claim the Untapped Artifact, then form it at the Artifact Formation.

Does it increase all healing?

No evidence supports treating it that way. The description is about Health Elements, so this page does not claim it improves every source of healing.

Does it increase maximum Health?

No. It changes how much Health a Health Element restores, not the size of the Health pool.

Does it affect Heart Monitor?

No interaction should be assumed. Heart Monitor uses its own lethal-damage recovery, which is not a Health Element.

Is it good with Wallet?

They complement each other. Wallet can pressure the Health pool, and the Coin makes Health Element pickups restore more, which helps rebuild it. The Coin does not lower Wallet's Health cost.

Is it good for survival builds?

It is strong for builds that generate or collect Health Elements often, and weak for builds that rely on regeneration or direct heals instead.

What are Health Elements?

Health Elements are pickups that restore Health when collected. They can be created by kills, Talents and other effects, and they are the recovery source this Artifact improves.
