Lighter

Lighter is a passive defensive Artifact: it raises Dylan's resistance to Burn by making Burn take longer to build up. It slows one specific status — it is not Burn immunity, Burn damage reduction or a shorter Burn.

The core idea is buildup, not damage: a Burn attack fills the meter more slowly, so Dylan reaches the Burning state later.

Lighter Overview

Lighter is a passive status-defense Artifact, active the entire time it is equipped. It raises resistance to Burn specifically, which makes Burn build up more slowly on Dylan. It is not a heal, a shield or a damage cut: it changes how fast Burn accumulates, so Dylan has more time before the Burning state activates. Other negative statuses are not affected.

Lighter is the Burn-focused counterpart to Worn Eraser. It does not add damage or Power; it buys time against Burn-heavy encounters.

What Does Lighter Do?

One passive modifier on Burn buildup.

The Artifact increases resistance to Burn. Resistance means incoming Burn buildup is slower, so it takes longer for an enemy attack or hazard to fill the meter that activates the Burning state. Nothing about the Burn status itself changes once it is active.

  1. 1 · Burn resistance

Raise resistance to Burn, the layer that decides how fast Burn builds on Dylan.

  2. 2 · Buildup becomes slower

The same Burn attack fills the buildup meter more slowly, so the Burning state takes longer to trigger.

  3. 3 · Burn only, not all statuses

The scope is Burn alone. Other negative statuses such as Infected are not affected by Lighter.

  4. 4 · Always on while equipped

The effect is passive and lasts the whole time the Artifact is equipped. There is no activation to time.

How the modifier is implemented — additive or multiplicative, and its exact value — is confirmed against the shipped game before any number is published.

How Burn Resistance Works

Buildup resistance is not damage reduction.

Burn has stages: a source applies buildup, the buildup reaches a threshold, and only then does Burn activate. Lighter works on the middle stage. It slows the buildup, so the threshold is reached later — it does not change what happens after Burn is active.

Without Lighter

The Burn attack fills the buildup meter at its normal rate and reaches the threshold sooner.

With Lighter

The same Burn attack fills the meter more slowly, so the Burning state takes longer to activate.

Lighter delays incoming Burn buildup. It does not automatically mean Burn immunity, a shorter Burn duration, or reduced damage once Burn is active.

What Lighter Does Not Do

Resistance is not immunity, damage reduction or a duration change.

Lighter is easy to misread as "less fire damage" or "never Burned". Those are separate axes from buildup. Keeping them apart is what tells you when Lighter actually helps.

  • Not Burn immunity

Lighter makes Burn take longer to reach, not impossible. Enough Burn buildup still activates the Burning state.

  • Not Burn damage reduction

The verified effect is buildup resistance. Lower damage after Burn is active should not be assumed.

  • Not a shorter Burn

Buildup rate and duration are different axes. Lighter is not verified to make Burn wear off faster.

  • Not environmental fire defense

Flames, lava and steam on the map are hazards, not the Burn status. Hazard damage is a different Artifact's job.

  • Not a weaker Ignite or Inferno

Lighter protects Dylan from Burn applied to him. It does not touch the Burn Dylan applies to enemies.

This page only maps Lighter to verified incoming Burn buildup. Claims about active Burn damage, duration or hazards stay gated.

Burn Status Explained

One status, two directions.

Burn is not just a damage-over-time tick. It moves through a buildup stage and an active stage, and it behaves differently depending on who it lands on: a negative status on Dylan, but an offensive status when Dylan applies it to enemies.

  1. Burn source
  2. Burn buildup
  3. Burn active
  4. Recovery
  • Burn source

An enemy attack, ability or hazard that applies Burn buildup to its target.

  • Burn buildup

The stage that fills toward a threshold. This is the exact point Lighter slows for incoming Burn.

  • Active Burn

What happens once enough buildup lands. Lighter is not verified to change the active consequences.

  • Direction matters

Incoming Burn (enemy to Dylan) and outgoing Burn (Dylan to enemy) are different relations that only share the same status.

  • Related abilities

Ignite and Inferno apply Burn to enemies; Lighter defends against Burn coming the other way.

The site keeps the Burn source, the affected actor and the direction separate. It does not treat "Burn" as one flat effect.

Lighter vs Worn Eraser and Face Mask

One specific Burn resistance against a global and another specific one.

Lighter, Worn Eraser and Face Mask all slow status buildup, but they cover different scopes. Worn Eraser covers every negative status; Lighter focuses on Burn; Face Mask focuses on Infected. When one status dominates, a focused Artifact can be the better fit — but only verified values can say which is stronger.

A specific scope is not automatically stronger than a global one. Whether Lighter resists Burn more than Worn Eraser does depends on verified modifier values, so no "better" claim is published here.

Lighter and Feeding Bottle

An activation tension, not a synergy.

Feeding Bottle rewards Dylan for being Infected or Burning. Lighter makes Burning harder to reach. That is not a conflict of values but a conflict of timing: the safer pick can delay the state the other Artifact wants.

RelationWhy it matters

Lighter

Activation tension

Lighter slows incoming Burn buildup, so Dylan reaches the Burning state later.

Feeding Bottle

Shared status

Feeding Bottle wants Dylan to be Burning or Infected for its Power-recovery bonus.

Safety vs uptime

Lighter improves safety

Feeding Bottle wants the condition

Activation tension

This is a timing relation, not a rule that the two Artifacts cannot be used together. Whether they can be equipped at the same time depends on the equipment-family registry, not on this page.

The page describes the relationship instead of assuming a stacking result. Some players are still unclear whether Feeding Bottle triggers only when Dylan is Burned or Infected, which is exactly why direction is modeled separately.

Enemy and Boss Matchups

Value tracks how much Burn the encounter applies.

Lighter has no fixed tier. Its value rises in encounters that apply Burn often and falls in encounters that apply none. The enemy database, once it records inflicted statuses, is what turns this from a rule of thumb into a per-encounter answer.

  • Burn-applying enemies

The more often an encounter applies Burn, the more Lighter's slower buildup contributes.

  • Infected-only threats

If the main status is Infected, Lighter has nothing to slow. Face Mask or Worn Eraser is relevant instead.

  • Raw damage threats

Buildup resistance does not reduce direct damage, so Lighter is not a raw-damage answer.

  • Environmental hazards

Fire, lava and steam are hazards, not the Burn status. Lighter is not verified to reduce hazard damage.

  • The Deserter

The boss that drops Lighter also applies Burn. Because Lighter is the reward, it is not available before your first clear and is a later-clear or repeat tool.

Boss status thresholds and hidden interaction rules are gated. This page describes the decision logic, not a hidden number.

How to Get Lighter

A main-quest reward, then an Artifact Formation craft.

You do not find a finished Lighter in the world. You progress The Central Resonant, defeat The Deserter in the Patterned Factory, receive the Untapped Lighter and then craft it at the Artifact Formation.

  1. 1 · Progress The Central Resonant

Advance the main quest until the Patterned Factory and The Deserter encounter are available.

  2. 2 · Defeat The Deserter

Clear The Deserter fight in the Patterned Factory. It rewards the Untapped Artifact.

  3. 3 · Claim the Untapped Lighter

Defeating The Deserter rewards the Untapped Lighter, alongside the Ignite and Inferno choice.

  4. 4 · Craft at the Artifact Formation

Forge the Untapped Artifact with the required materials and Source, then equip it.

The Central Resonant Reward

The Central Resonant is the main quest that leads into the Patterned Factory and The Deserter. Defeating The Deserter during it rewards the Untapped Lighter, which is then crafted into the usable Artifact.

Is Lighter Worth It?

Strong for Burn-heavy defense, lower value with no Burn threat.

Lighter is worth a slot when incoming Burn is actually disrupting your fights. It is the wrong pick when nothing threatens to Burn Dylan, when another status is the real threat, or when you want Dylan to be Burning on purpose.

Good fit when

  • The encounter applies Burn often

Frequent Burn pressure is exactly what Lighter's incoming buildup resistance reduces.

  • Burn keeps reaching activation

If the Burning state keeps breaking your combat loop, slower buildup gives you room to react.

  • You need targeted Burn protection

When Burn is the dominant threat, a Burn-specific resistance is the focused choice.

  • You know the next area is Burn-heavy

If you have scouted a Burn-heavy section, equipping Lighter before it is a clear, targeted pick.

Lower value when

  • The encounter does not apply Burn

If nothing applies Burn, Lighter has little to slow and another Artifact contributes more.

  • Infected is the main threat

Lighter is Burn-only. Against Infected, Face Mask or Worn Eraser is the relevant resistance.

  • Raw damage is the threat

Lighter does not reduce direct damage, so it does not answer raw-damage encounters.

  • Environmental hazards are the threat

Hazard damage is not the Burn status, so Lighter is not verified to answer it.

  • You want Dylan to become Burning

Slower buildup delays reaching a state another effect wants to exploit, so it can work against such a build.

  • Broad status coverage is more useful

When several statuses are in play, one broad resistance can be more useful than Burn-only protection. This is an encounter judgment, not proof that Worn Eraser is numerically stronger.

Lighter FAQ

What does Lighter do?
It increases Dylan's resistance to Burn by making Burn take longer to build up.
How do you get Lighter?
Complete The Central Resonant by defeating The Deserter in the Patterned Factory to receive the Untapped Lighter, then craft it at the Artifact Formation.
Does Lighter make Dylan immune to Burn?
No. It slows Burn buildup, which is not immunity. Enough Burn buildup can still activate the Burning state.
Does Lighter reduce Burn damage?
The verified effect is buildup resistance. Lower damage after Burn is active should not be assumed.
Does Lighter make Burn wear off faster?
There is not enough evidence for that. Buildup rate and duration are two different axes.
Does Lighter weaken Ignite or Inferno?
The site does not calculate it that way. Ignite and Inferno apply Burn to enemies; Lighter is Dylan's resistance to incoming Burn. The exact actor scope stays with the production registry.
Lighter or Worn Eraser?
Lighter is aimed at Burn specifically; Worn Eraser gives broader negative-status buildup resistance. Which is stronger needs exact modifier values.
Is Lighter good with Feeding Bottle?
There is an activation tension: Lighter delays Dylan reaching the Burning state, while Feeding Bottle grants Power recovery while Dylan is Burning or Infected.
