How to start Unsupervised Science

Enter any Testing Facility. The quest starts on your first facility and the six can be finished in any order.

There is no quest giver. A computer icon marks each Testing Facility on the map, and stepping inside begins the quest. If you have a choice, do the Evacuation Zone facility first.

Map marker on an empty street?

That is normal. The marker points at the underground lab, not the surface entrance, so the street above it often looks empty.

Look nearby for

  • Construction pits and open ground
  • Drainage pipes you can crouch into
  • Sewer routes and access shafts
  • Parking garages and service lifts

The Evacuation Zone facility is the best first pick: shutting it down unlocks Testing Facility Coordinates, which marks the other labs on your map.

  3. Enter the pipe that leads underground
  4. Follow the pipe into the Testing Facility

The pipe is inside the building, not on the street, so do not circle the block looking for a hatch.

  2. Walk around to the southeast side
  3. Drop into the construction pit
  4. Take the pipe down into the facility

This is usually the first facility players find, and it uses the smaller four-core Power Core test.

  4. Follow it into the Testing Facility

The surface marker sits on the pit, so look down rather than along the street.

  2. Follow the southeast route through the sewers
  3. Reach the special room at the end
  4. Continue on the same level into the facility

The New Growth quest also passes through this area, so you can clear both routes together.

  4. Follow it into the final Testing Facility

This facility uses the larger five-core Power Core test and also holds the entrance to the final Threshold.

Experiment solvers

Both experiments repeat across several facilities. Identify the one you see, then use that solver instead of a per-facility walkthrough.

Players start each experiment from different states, so a fixed left-to-right answer would be wrong. These solvers teach the rule, not one scripted sequence.

How it works

Soda Dispenser

Carry objects across the yellow floor lines: every crossing changes the object into its next form.

Object state

Current form and target form are what matter. Cross a yellow line to step the object to its next form.

Line intersection loop
  1. Pick up the object
  2. Cross a yellow line to change its form
  3. Check the new form
  4. Loop around the intersection and cross again if it is not Soda Dispenser yet
  5. Place it on the square once it is a Soda Dispenser
How it works
  1. Read the target image: every object must be a Soda Dispenser / Thirst Station form when placed.
  2. Pick up an object and watch its form change each time it crosses a yellow line.
  3. Use the line intersection next to the placement square to loop through forms without moving far.
  4. Place each object on its square only once it is in the Soda Dispenser form.

Common mistakeYour starting forms can differ from another player's, so never copy a fixed crossing order from a guide. Read the form you have now and cross lines until it matches.

Then shut it down

When every object sits in the target form, the puzzle is done — but you still have to return to the console and shut the experiment down.

Power Core

Start the test, then keep every core charged for about sixty seconds by moving charges between them.

How it works
  1. A charged core is blue; an empty core is red.
  2. A flashing red core is the one demanding charge right now.
  3. Take a charge from a charged blue core and move it to the flashing red core.
  4. Keep rotating charges between cores so none stays empty too long.
  5. Survive until the roughly sixty-second test ends.

Common mistakeIf the timer resets, one empty core stayed unpowered too long. React to the core that is flashing now instead of following a fixed order.

Then shut it down

When the timer finishes, the puzzle is done — return to the console and use the switch to shut the experiment down.

The final Threshold

Final objective locked

Shut down all six facilities first. Only then does the Threshold entrance open in the Unknown facility.

Reward

Each shutdown can grant facility rewards such as Area XP, readings, or a power upgrade.

A final artifact reward is reported by guides but not yet verified, so this page does not list an exact per-facility reward table.
