Artifact · Infected Defense
ArtifactFace Mask
Face Mask is a passive defensive Artifact: it raises Dylan's resistance to Infected by making Infected take longer to build up. It slows one specific status — it is not Infected immunity, Infected damage reduction or a shorter Infected.

Mold-heavy areas and encounters where Infected buildup is the main threat.
The Park Resonant / The Collective
The core idea is buildup, not damage: a Mold attack or hazard fills the Infected meter more slowly, so Dylan reaches the Infected state later.
Face Mask Overview
Face Mask is a passive status-defense Artifact, active the entire time it is equipped. It raises resistance to Infected specifically, which makes Infected build up more slowly on Dylan. It is not a heal, a shield or a damage cut: it changes how fast Infected accumulates, so Dylan has more time before the Infected state activates. Other negative statuses are not affected.
Face Mask is the Infected-focused counterpart to Worn Eraser. It does not add damage or Power; it buys time against Mold-heavy encounters.
What Does Face Mask Do?
One passive modifier on Infected buildup.
The Artifact increases resistance to Infected. Resistance means incoming Infected buildup is slower, so it takes longer for a Mold attack or hazard to fill the meter that activates the Infected state. Nothing about the Infected status itself changes once it is active.
- 1 · Infected resistance
Raise resistance to Infected, the layer that decides how fast Infected builds on Dylan.
- 2 · Buildup becomes slower
The same Infected attack fills the buildup meter more slowly, so the Infected state takes longer to trigger.
- 3 · Infected only, not all statuses
The scope is Infected alone. Other negative statuses such as Burn are not affected by Face Mask.
- 4 · Always on while equipped
The effect is passive and lasts the whole time the Artifact is equipped. There is no activation to time.
How the modifier is implemented — additive or multiplicative, and its exact value — is confirmed against the shipped game before any number is published.
How Infected Resistance Works
Buildup resistance is not damage reduction.
Infected has stages: a source applies buildup, the buildup reaches a threshold, and only then does Infected activate. Face Mask works on the middle stage. It slows the buildup, so the threshold is reached later — it does not change what happens after Infected is active.
The Infected attack fills the buildup meter at its normal rate and reaches the threshold sooner.
The same Infected attack fills the meter more slowly, so the Infected state takes longer to activate.
Face Mask delays incoming Infected buildup. It does not automatically mean Infected immunity, a shorter Infected duration, or reduced damage once Infected is active.
What Face Mask Does Not Do
Resistance is not immunity, damage reduction or a duration change.
Face Mask is easy to misread as less Mold damage or never Infected. Those are separate axes from buildup. Keeping them apart is what tells you when Face Mask actually helps.
- Not Infected immunity
Face Mask makes Infected take longer to reach, not impossible. Enough Infected buildup still activates the Infected state.
- Not active Infected effect reduction
The verified effect is buildup resistance. Weaker consequences after Infected is active should not be assumed.
- Not a shorter Infected
Buildup rate and duration are different axes. Face Mask is not verified to make Infected wear off faster.
- Not Mold damage reduction
Face Mask slows the Infected meter, not the direct damage a Mold enemy or hazard deals.
- Not a weaker Spore Burst or Growth
Face Mask protects Dylan from Infected applied to him. It does not touch the Infected Dylan applies to enemies.
This page only maps Face Mask to verified incoming Infected buildup. Claims about active Infected damage, duration or immunity stay gated.
Infected Status Explained
One status, two directions.
Infected is not just a damage-over-time tick. It moves through a buildup stage and an active stage, and it behaves differently depending on who it lands on: a negative status on Dylan, but an offensive status when Dylan applies it to enemies.
- Infected source
- Infected buildup
- Infected active
- Recovery
- Infected source
A Mold enemy attack, ability or hazard that applies Infected buildup to its target.
- Infected buildup
The stage that fills toward a threshold. This is the exact point Face Mask slows for incoming Infected.
- Active Infected
What happens once enough buildup lands. Face Mask is not verified to change the active consequences.
- Direction matters
Incoming Infected (enemy to Dylan) and outgoing Infected (Dylan to enemy) are different relations that only share the same status.
- Related abilities
Spore Burst and Growth apply Infected to enemies; Face Mask defends against Infected coming the other way.
The site keeps the Infected source, the affected actor and the direction separate. It does not treat Infected as one flat effect.
Face Mask vs Worn Eraser and Lighter
One specific Infected resistance against a global and another specific one.
Face Mask, Worn Eraser and Lighter all slow status buildup, but they cover different scopes. Worn Eraser covers every negative status; Lighter focuses on Burn; Face Mask focuses on Infected. When one status dominates, a focused Artifact can be the better fit — but only verified values can say which is stronger.
Status Resistance Triangle
Worn Eraser
All negative statuses
Lighter
Burn
Face Mask
Infected
Worn Eraser is broad; Lighter and Face Mask are specialized. Specialized does not automatically mean stronger — that is a data question.
| Aspect | Face Mask | Worn Eraser | Lighter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scope | Infected | All negative statuses | Burn |
| Target | Infected buildup | Status buildup rate | Burn buildup |
| Type | Specific | Global | Specific |
| Strength | Exact values gated | Exact values gated | Exact values gated |
| Best for | Infected-heavy encounters | Mixed-status encounters | Burn-heavy encounters |
A specific scope is not automatically stronger than a global one. Whether Face Mask resists Infected more than Worn Eraser does depends on verified modifier values, so no better claim is published here.
Face Mask and Feeding Bottle
An activation tension, not a synergy.
Feeding Bottle rewards Dylan for being Infected or Burning. Face Mask makes Infected harder to reach. That is not a conflict of values but a conflict of timing: the safer pick can delay the state the other Artifact wants.
| Relation | Why it matters |
|---|---|
Face Mask Activation tension | Face Mask slows incoming Infected buildup, so Dylan reaches the Infected state later. |
Feeding Bottle Shared status | Feeding Bottle wants Dylan to be Infected or Burning for its Power-recovery bonus. |
Safety vs uptime
Face Mask improves safety
Feeding Bottle wants the condition
Activation tension
This is a timing relation, not a rule that the two Artifacts cannot be used together. Whether they can be equipped at the same time depends on the equipment-family registry, not on this page.
The page describes the relationship instead of assuming a stacking result. Some players are still unclear whether Feeding Bottle triggers only when Dylan is fully Infected or as Infected buildup starts, which is exactly why the activation point stays gated.
Enemy and Boss Matchups
Value tracks how much Infected the encounter applies.
Face Mask has no fixed tier. Its value rises in encounters that apply Infected often and falls in encounters that apply none. The enemy database, once it records inflicted statuses, is what turns this from a rule of thumb into a per-encounter answer.
- Infected-applying enemies
The more often an encounter applies Infected, the more Face Mask's slower buildup contributes.
- Burn-only threats
If the main status is Burn, Face Mask has nothing to slow. Lighter or Worn Eraser is relevant instead.
- Raw damage threats
Buildup resistance does not reduce direct damage, so Face Mask is not a raw-damage answer.
- Environmental hazards
Hazard damage is not the Infected status. Face Mask is not verified to reduce hazard damage.
- The Collective
The boss that drops Face Mask also sits in a Mold-heavy area. Because Face Mask is the reward, it is not available before your first clear and is a later-clear or repeat tool.
Boss status thresholds and hidden interaction rules are gated. This page describes the decision logic, not a hidden number.
How to Get Face Mask
A main-quest reward, then an Artifact Formation craft.
You do not find a finished Face Mask in the world. You progress The Park Resonant, defeat The Collective, receive the Untapped Face Mask and then craft it at the Artifact Formation.
- 1 · Progress The Park Resonant
Advance the main quest until the Mold objectives and The Collective encounter are available.
- 2 · Defeat The Collective
Clear The Collective fight at the end of The Park. It rewards the Untapped Artifact.
- 3 · Claim the Untapped Face Mask
Defeating The Collective rewards the Untapped Face Mask, alongside the Spore Burst and Growth choice.
- 4 · Craft at the Artifact Formation
Forge the Untapped Artifact with the required materials and Source, then equip it.
The Park Resonant Reward
The Park Resonant is the Resonant quest that leads into The Park and The Collective. Defeating The Collective during it rewards the Untapped Face Mask, which is then crafted into the usable Artifact.

Artifact Formation
The Artifact Formation turns an Untapped Artifact into its usable form. Reach it before you expect to use Face Mask.
The recipe numbers here are the reported values. Confirm them in your own crafting screen; they are the part most likely to change between versions.
Is Face Mask Worth It?
Strong for Infected-heavy defense, lower value with no Infected threat.
Face Mask is worth a slot when incoming Infected is actually disrupting your fights. It is the wrong pick when nothing threatens to Infect Dylan, when another status is the real threat, or when you want Dylan to be Infected on purpose.
Good fit when
The encounter applies Infected often
Frequent Infected pressure is exactly what Face Mask's incoming buildup resistance reduces.
Mold enemies keep filling the meter
If Mold attacks repeatedly build Infected, slower buildup gives you more time before the status activates.
Infected keeps reaching activation
If the Infected state keeps breaking your combat loop, slower buildup gives you room to react.
You need targeted Infected protection
When Infected is the dominant threat, an Infected-specific resistance is the focused choice.
You know the next area is Mold-heavy
If you have scouted a Mold-heavy section such as The Park, equipping Face Mask before it is a clear, targeted pick.
Lower value when
The encounter does not apply Infected
If nothing applies Infected, Face Mask has little to slow and another Artifact contributes more.
Burn is the main threat
Face Mask is Infected-only. Against Burn, Lighter or Worn Eraser is the relevant resistance.
Raw damage is the threat
Face Mask does not reduce direct damage, so it does not answer raw-damage encounters.
Environmental hazards are the threat
Hazard damage is not the Infected status, so Face Mask is not verified to answer it.
You want Dylan to become Infected
Slower buildup delays reaching a state another effect wants to exploit, so it can work against such a build.
Broad status coverage is more useful
When several statuses are in play, one broad resistance can be more useful than Infected-only protection. This is an encounter judgment, not proof that Worn Eraser is numerically stronger.
Face Mask FAQ
- What does Face Mask do?
- It increases Dylan's resistance to Infected by making Infected take longer to build up.
- How do you get Face Mask?
- Complete The Park Resonant by defeating The Collective to receive the Untapped Face Mask, then craft it at the Artifact Formation.
- Does Face Mask make Dylan immune to Infected?
- No. It slows Infected buildup, which is not immunity. Enough Infected buildup can still activate the Infected state.
- Does Face Mask remove Infected once it activates?
- That should not be inferred. The verified effect is buildup resistance, not status cleansing.
- Does Face Mask reduce Infected duration?
- There is not enough evidence for that. Buildup rate and duration are two different axes.
- Does Face Mask weaken Spore Burst?
- The site does not calculate it that way. Face Mask is Dylan's resistance to incoming Infected; Spore Burst applies Infected to enemies. The exact actor scope stays with the production registry.
- Does Face Mask weaken Growth?
- Likewise, Face Mask is not defaulted to affect the Infected a summoned Mold ally applies to enemies.
- Face Mask or Worn Eraser?
- Face Mask is aimed at Infected specifically; Worn Eraser gives broader negative-status buildup resistance. Which is stronger needs exact modifier values.
- Face Mask or Lighter?
- Face Mask targets Infected; Lighter targets Burn. Pick by the status the encounter actually applies, not by which one sounds stronger.
- Is Face Mask good with Feeding Bottle?
- There is an activation tension: Face Mask delays Dylan reaching the Infected state, while Feeding Bottle grants Power recovery while Dylan is Infected or Burning.
Face Mask Authority
Face Mask owns the Infected-buildup resistance intent: its effect, its Infected-only scope, how resistance differs from immunity or damage reduction, its direction relative to Spore Burst and Growth, its comparisons and its The Park Resonant reward.
